Driving and Walking for Change

When I talk with Tucsonans about climate change, people want to know what the Tucson City Council could possibly do about it. Turns out there’s a lot!

Transportation is among the biggest contributors to climate change, so accelerating the shift to electric vehicles would make a significant impact. Electrifying the city fleet is an obvious step, especially buses. We can create incentives for charging stations around town, supporting both local users and freeway travelers.

And the next transportation package funded by the Regional Transportation Authority should focus less on expanding major roads and more on transit, bikeways, sidewalks, and maintaining neighborhood streets. Join me on commenting on the development of the new regional transportation plan. Find out more about the plan here. Then take the survey here, which is open until May 18.

We can also reduce the impacts of heat and drought, but that’s a topic for another day. In the meantime, please join our team walking the streets of Ward 3, spreading the word about this campaign.
