KEVIN’S STORY
COMMUNITY ROOTS
Kevin Dahl is a longtime leader in the conservation movement who has dedicated his career to protecting and improving the community around him.
Kevin was raised in Arizona and is the product of public schools. His father was a World War II veteran who became a law professor and his mother worked in a toy store. Both taught Kevin to pay attention to economic and social injustices, and imparted to him a love of the outdoors. During a nationwide rise in attention to environmental quality, he decided to take local action. Kevin joined an ecology club in high school and began a lifetime of work to combat climate change and help underserved communities.
Kevin led his student group to secure the first local recycling center in their home city and testified before Congress on a bill to expand Grand Canyon National Park at the age of 14. Recognizing early on the links between environmental protection and economic justice, he helped organize in fights to improve working conditions including the United Farm Workers’ grape boycott.
THE RIGHT FOCUS
After working his way through college as a landscaper, cleaning toilets at campgrounds for the Forest Service and flipping burgers at football games, Kevin settled in Tucson. He worked as Natural Resources Parks Superintendent for Pima County, raised funds for conservation issues while leading Native Seeds/SEARCH, and served as the Executive Director of the Tucson Audubon Society, where he grew the organization while engaging on local environmental justice issues.
After 14 years, Kevin retired from the National Parks Conservation Association where he worked every day to protect our national parks and lands. Kevin has been as an adjunct faculty member at Prescott College in Tucson, is a past member of the Tucson Planning Commission, and he is a published author who has written extensively on conservation and local horticulture and agriculture.
WORKING FOR US
Kevin and his family have called Tucson home for 38 years and have remained active in their local community. His wife, Bam Miller, is a retired TUSD special education teacher who has served as President of the Samos Neighborhood Association for the past 8 years. His son, Brian, works as a groundskeeper at Kino School and is widely known downtown as #theguywhodancesoncongress.
Today, Kevin proudly represents Ward 3 on the City Council and for the past year, has served as Vice Mayor. Kevin is running for re-election to ensure our city remains a vibrant, healthy, and safe community for everyone to call home.
